What is incontinence?

Incontinence is a condition in which the pelvic muscles that firmly support the bladder and urethra weaken and the pelvis relaxes, so that the bladder and urethra descend and urine leaks involuntarily. If it becomes severe it can lead to loss of confidence, strain on marital life and avoidance of social contact, and the embarrassment or shame involved may cause psychological problems, so prompt diagnosis and treatment are needed.

Causes of incontinence
  • Aging
  •
  • Female hormone test
  •
  • Childbirth and delivery
  •
  • Obesity
Symptoms

  • 1
  • Once the urge to urinate starts, it becomes unbearably strong.
  • 2
  • Bedwetting during sleep.
  • 3
  • Urination does not feel complete.
  • 4
  • The urge is strong and hard to hold, so urine often leaks before reaching the toilet.
  • 5
  • Urine leaks when coughing, sneezing, exercising or changing posture, such as standing up from a seat.
Types of incontinence

Incontinence, a worry women can't talk about: knowing the cause makes accurate treatment possible.

Stress urinary incontinence
Stress Incontinence
  • The most representative and common form of incontinence; the main symptom appears when you strain your abdomen.
  • 80~90% of urinary incontinence is stress incontinence, also called tension incontinence.
Urge urinary incontinence
Urge Incontinence
  • In urge incontinence the anatomical structures are normal, but the bladder muscle is unstable.
  • Symptoms in which an overactive bladder contracts abnormally, causing urine leakage and difficulty holding urine.
Mixed urinary incontinence
Mixed Incontinence
  • A mixed form of stress and urge incontinence, common in older women.
Diagnosis of incontinence
Stage 1
Secret Consult

After a one-on-one consultation with an obstetrics and gynecology specialist at the Women's Clinic, including a detailed medical history, we analyze your individual concerns and condition precisely and propose the optimal program to maximize the treatment effect.

Stage 2
Customized detailed examination

To treat the underlying cause of incontinence, we miss nothing, using nerve testing, incontinence provocation tests, pelvic muscle testing, urinalysis, a voiding diary, uroflowmetry and urodynamic studies, ultrasound and MRI.

What is TOT therapy for incontinence?

The transobturator tape procedure, or TOT therapy, is performed under spinal anesthesia and uses an ergonomically designed mesh tape for incontinence to fix the urethra in its normal position, supporting the urethra when abdominal pressure rises during a sudden cough or sneeze.

  • The high success rate brings high satisfaction.
  •
  • Short surgery time of about 20 ~ 30 minutes.
  • The treatment effect appears immediately after surgery.
  •
  • Scarring and post-operative pain are minimal, allowing same-day discharge.
