Adult stem cells
What is adult stem cell therapy?
Stem cells are named for being the 'stem' from which all cells arise, and they have the ability to develop into any tissue in the body.
St. Peter's Hospital provides adult stem cell therapy using adult stem cells, which are particularly effective in helping damaged cartilage recover. The treatment not only slows disc degeneration but also regenerates the damaged disc, addressing the underlying cause of symptoms such as pain and pressure.
Benefits of adult stem cell therapy
- 1
- The cells differentiate according to the nature of the tissue at each site, so side effects are minimal.
- 2
- The treatment can be repeated.
- 3
- The procedure is possible even for patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension or diabetes.
- 4
- It is not a chemical agent like a steroid, so complications such as osteoporosis or osteonecrosis are rare.

St. Peter's Hospital Adult Stem Cell Center

Most disc treatments aim to relieve the surrounding ligaments, muscles and nerve tissue that are being compressed by the damaged disc.
Since 2001, however, Director Yoon, Kangjun of St. Peter's Hospital, who has used adult stem cells to treat neurological
conditions such as stroke, sequelae of spinal cord injury, dementia and Parkinson's disease, performs a fundamental
treatment to overcome the limits of conventional disc therapy: adult stem cells are injected into the damaged disc to
help regenerate the collagen fibers, elastic fibers and proteins that make up the disc.
Post-treatment precautions
- Treatment results and duration may vary depending on individual symptoms.
- Very rarely, bleeding, infection or blood clots may occur with surgery or procedures.
- Temporary side effects may occur after treatment and vary with each individual's condition.
