Cardiovascular disease
What is valvular heart disease?
The heart valves keep blood flowing in only one direction and play a key role in the pumping function of the heart.
Valvular heart disease is a condition in which the valves are damaged by various causes and fail to regulate blood flow; it is generally divided into stenosis and regurgitation.
Valvular stenosis
This is a condition in which the valve narrows and blood does not flow through it smoothly.
Valvular regurgitation
This is a condition in which the valve does not close properly and blood flows backward.
