Lee Hyun-sam is a self-made figure well known as the founder of the world's first double-sided frying pan brand. Since selling his company, which had annual revenue of 200 billion won, in 2016, he has drawn public attention for emphasizing the importance of more essential values in life, health among them.
Mr. Lee Hyun-sam first came to know St. Peter's Hospital through Director Lee, Choon Sung of the Spine Center. As he and his family received treatment, he was impressed by the excellent medical staff and treatment infrastructure, and at the same time he came to share the philosophy of President Yoon, Kangjun, who has put patient-centered care and the value of sharing medical care into practice.
The hospital explained that the donor also decided to give in order to stand with a hospital that has led the way in strengthening the local medical safety net.
The donation took on added meaning as President Yoon, Kangjun, who shared this purpose, joined in. President Yoon added 30 million won of his own money to the 30 million won donated by Lee Hyun-sam, creating a fund of 60 million won in total.
In line with Mr. Lee's wishes, the donation will be used to support surgery and treatment for epilepsy patients who need an operation but face financial hardship.
Lee Hyun-sam said, “I decided to make this donation in the hope that it will help the recovery of epilepsy patients who struggle with treatment because of cost and circumstances.” He added, “I want to keep living a life of giving, adding a little warmth wherever society needs it most.”
President Yoon, Kangjun also said, “We will make sure this donation is put to good use supporting epilepsy patients in urgent need of surgery and treatment, so that it becomes an even more meaningful act of sharing.” He stressed, “As a leading general hospital in the Gangnam area, we will continue to actively support underserved areas of care and to share medical resources with our community.”
