퇴행성 골관절염
What is degenerative osteoarthritis?
A condition in which inflammatory lesions develop in the hip joint is called hip arthritis. The most common form, degenerative arthritis, is divided into primary degenerative hip arthritis, in which the joint deteriorates with age without any particular cause, and secondary degenerative hip arthritis, in which the joint deteriorates after being deformed or damaged by congenital or acquired disease or by trauma.
Symptoms
- 1
- Maintain dislocation-prevention postures for 3 months after surgery.
- 2
- Pain appears when standing up and walking after sitting for a long time, then gradually eases while walking.
- 3
- As degeneration worsens, the range of motion of the hip joint becomes limited.
- 4
- Severe pain when spreading the legs.
- 5
- Pain makes it impossible to walk straight, causing a waddling or limping gait.
Treatment
Early on, drug therapy, physiotherapy and exercise therapy are used; if the pain worsens, artificial joint replacement surgery is performed.
Artificial Joint Replacement Surgery
Artificial joint replacement surgery has the advantage that pain almost disappears once the recovery period is over. Some patients describe tingling or numbness at the surgical site afterwards, which is part of the artificial joint adapting to the body. Consistent rehabilitation is needed to reduce these symptoms.
Precautions after artificial joint replacement surgery
- 1
- Maintain dislocation-prevention postures for 3 months after surgery.
- 2
- Regular check-ups remain essential even after surgery.
- 3
- Perform joint exercises that build muscle strength regularly.
- 4
- Take care not to fall while exercising.
- 5
- If you fall, visit a nearby hospital to check for injuries.
- 6
- Avoid activities that strain the joints, such as strenuous exercise or walking for long periods.
- 7
- Artificial joints are made of metal. They may be detected by airport security, so inform staff in advance that you have had artificial joint replacement surgery.
