[Korean Hospital Newspaper = Reporter Jung Yoon-sik] St. Peter's Hospital (President Yoon, Kangjun) recently introduced ‘NEUROGAIT’, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based gait and balance function assessment platform, and is moving to strengthen its rehabilitation care system.

The introduction is intended to provide precise, data-driven personalized diagnosis and rehabilitation treatment programs in step with growing demand for care among patients with musculoskeletal and cerebrovascular disease and older patients.

Developed by the digital healthcare company Salted, NEUROGAIT is a Class 1 medical device that supports patient diagnosis and exercise prescription through gait testing.

‘Smart insoles’ are fitted with plantar pressure sensors and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to collect a range of gait data generated while walking, including plantar pressure loading patterns, weight distribution, the path of the center of pressure (COP), and balance control.

The test is as simple as walking in ordinary shoes, and it converts areas that were previously assessed through clinicians' observation and manual measurement into quantified digital data, making real-time monitoring possible.

In particular, on the basis of the objective analytical data obtained, Rehabilitation Medicine specialists can design tailored exercise programs and rehabilitative therapy that reflect each patient's characteristics, continuously monitor the course of treatment and adjust exercise intensity and plans, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of rehabilitative therapy.

St. Peter's Hospital plans to use gait patterns as a key diagnostic indicator to raise precision across the entire care process, from physiotherapy and exercise prescriptions for non-surgical patients through to post-operative rehabilitation.

Lee, Hee Won, Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine at St. Peter's Hospital, said, “Gait is a key indicator of overall physical health, so we expect the introduction of NEUROGAIT to be a great help in restoring patients' function and shortening the time it takes them to return to daily life,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen our capabilities in data-based tailored diagnosis and rehabilitative therapy to raise patient satisfaction.”

Beyond NEUROGAIT, St. Peter's Hospital continues to expand its stock of the latest equipment, including ‘Kymero’, an advanced medical robot for brain surgery, and operates a dedicated geriatric care team (TF), upgrading its medical infrastructure on multiple fronts.
