St. Peter's Hospital has introduced ‘NEUROGAIT’, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based gait and balance function assessment platform, and is strengthening diagnosis and rehabilitation treatment using patients' gait data.
St. Peter's Hospital announced on the 18th that it has introduced NEUROGAIT to assess gait function more objectively in patients with musculoskeletal and cerebrovascular disease and in elderly patients.
NEUROGAIT is a gait analysis medical device developed by the digital healthcare company Salted. Plantar pressure sensors and an inertial measurement unit are built into a smart insole to collect data generated while walking, such as plantar pressure, weight distribution, the path of the center of pressure, and left-right asymmetry.
When the patient wears the smart insole and walks, gait, balance, lower limb muscle strength, weight bearing, and physical performance tests can be analyzed. The hospital expects to be able to check as quantitative data some assessments that previously relied on observation or manual measurement, and to use the test results in rehabilitation treatment plans.
St. Peter's Hospital plans to use NEUROGAIT to check patients' gait status and treatment progress on an ongoing basis and to adjust exercise programs and rehabilitation treatment plans according to the test results. It intends to use gait data throughout the care process, from physiotherapy and exercise prescription for non-surgical patients to post-operative rehabilitation.
Lee, Hee Won, Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine at St. Peter's Hospital, said, “Gait is one of the key indicators for assessing physical function,” adding, “Through the introduction of NEUROGAIT, we will strengthen our data-driven personalized diagnosis and rehabilitation treatment capabilities.”
