Developed by the digital healthcare company Salted, NEUROGAIT is a Class 1 medical device: when the patient wears a ‘smart insole’ and walks, plantar pressure sensors and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) operate to collect gait data.
Plantar pressure loading patterns and weight distribution, the path of the center of pressure (COP), left-right asymmetry and balance control ability are measured in real time.
This quantifies gait, balance, lower limb muscle strength, and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) results as digital figures, sharply reducing the waiting time for diagnosis. A distinctive feature is that areas that used to rely on visual observation by the medical team or on manual measurement have been made objective through data.
With this platform in place, rehabilitation medicine specialists can now draw up precise, patient-specific exercise programs and treatment plans based on the accumulated data. They can also monitor treatment progress in figures and adjust exercise intensity flexibly, maximizing treatment efficiency.
The hospital plans to make active use of gait patterns as a key diagnostic indicator, raising the precision of the entire care process, from non-surgical physiotherapy and exercise prescription to early post-operative rehabilitation.
Lee, Hee Won, Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine at St. Peter's Hospital, said, “Gait is a core indicator that reflects overall physical health,” adding, “Through the introduction of NEUROGAIT, we will continue to strengthen data-driven personalized rehabilitation care that speeds up the recovery of patients' function and promotes their return to daily life.”
Meanwhile, St. Peter's Hospital continues to expand its advanced medical equipment, including the MAGNETOM Vida 3T, the AI-based MRI solution SwiftMR, the Olympus 3D oral endoscope, and the brain surgery robot Kymero, and is strengthening its specialist care capabilities by operating a dedicated geriatric care team (TF) and an Epilepsy & Sleep Center.
